D319 - Retention & Finishing of Cases

Description

This course will cover retention and finishing of cases. One of the most satisfying achievements in orthodontic treatment is the ability to finish the case to the satisfaction of the practitioner and thus be able to enter the retentive phase of treatment. Achieving this goal can sometimes be elusive for both experienced and inexperienced practitioners. The participants will learn the fixed appliance discipline required to achieve outstanding finished results.

The two primary goals of this course will be:

  • To help the doctors develop the expertise that is necessary to diagnose, treatment plan, and then establish efficient mechanics to properly finish the case.
  • To give the doctor a solid understanding on retention theory and how to set up a good individual retention regime.

A secondary purpose and a natural progression of this course will be to act as an overview of basic diagnosis and treatment planning since the inability to properly finish a case may be the result of a flaw in an earlier stage of treatment.

A workbook for notes will be provided in class.

Materials Needed for Course

It is recommended that the doctor bring one or two cases already under treatment for review by the instructor. We would also like you to bring the following supplies:

  • three - prong pliers
